The Texas Normal Singing School
Since 1946, the Texas Normal Singing School has been training song and worship leaders, song writers, and all those who are interested in a cappella, congregational singing. Noteworthy instructors like Austin Taylor, Holland Boring, Joe Ed Furr, James Tackett, and R.J. “Sonny” Taylor have provided a strong curriculum over the years. Students from all fifty states (and several international locations) and their home congregations have been blessed by this ministry in the last seventy-one years.
In 1989 the Singing School moved from its longtime home in Sabinal, Texas to the more centrally-located Abilene. Leasing housing and classroom facilities from Abilene Christian University allowed the school to grow in course offerings, student body, and teaching faculty.

Worship Leader Conference
Soon after reloacting to Abilene, TNSS began to host weekend events before the Singing School for our own students, faculty, and church leaders in West Texas. Each year we provide a program that aims to equip and encourage worship leaders, elders, preachers, and singers.
Recent presenters and programs have included: Ken Young of Hallal Music (and TNSS alumnus); Joey Roberts of University Church of Christ (Abilene) on Church Communications; R.J. “Sonny” Taylor of Taylor Publications on Hymnology; Dr. Mark Shipp of Austin Graduate School of Theology on the Timeless Psalter Project; Dr. Jack Reese of Abilene Christian University on the Book of Psalms.
This year we welcome Dr. Steve Wolfgang of Downers Grove, Illinois to speak on Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs, a new hymnal published by the Sumphonia Foundation, and hymnology among the non-institutional churches of Christ, which has developed independently from mainline congregations.
